Snow in site of skiing events

The ski resort village of Hakuba, site of many of the Alpine and Nordic skiing events during next month's Nagano Olympic Winter Games, has recorded an accumulation of 40 centimeters of snow by Wednesday morning.

Although one of the concerns of organizers so far had been lack of snow, Mt. Higashidate at Shiga Kogen, the site for Alpine skiing's giant slalom, also recorded an accumulation of some 60 cm of snow since Tuesday morning.

Artificial snow-making machines were put into full operation along the Happo-one ski slopes in Hakuba, the site of Alpine skiing's downhill and super G events during the Feb. 7-22 Games.
