Austria rips Japan for 4-2 win in Olympic tuen-up

Austria ripped Japan for four second period goals to send the Japanese to their second straight loss 4-2 in a pre-Olympic tune-up competition in Sapporo.

Japanese captain Toshiyuki Sakai put the hosts on top with a first period goal at Makomanai arena in Sapporo, but the Austrian, fourth in last year's Group B world championships, roared back with four unanswered goals in the second period for the win.

In a second tune-up contest in Tomakomai, France netted a pair of goals each in the first and second periods for a 4-0 win over Germany.

The first half of the men's ice hockey tournament for the 18th Olympic Winter Games in Nagano gets under way Saturday with Japan meeting Germany.

Italy takes on Kazakstan and Austria meets Slovakia, while France plays Belarus in other opening round contests Saturday.
