Olympic snowboard, Alpine combined postponed

Deteriorating course conditions on the Happo-one piste forced Olympic organizers to cancel the downhill leg of the men's Alpine skiing combined event scheduled for Monday.

It was the second day in a row that a men's downhill race had to be canceled. On Sunday, Alpine skiing's marquee medal event was reset for Wednesday when fog and a steady snowfall reduced visibility at the top of the course in Hakuba.

The men's combined downhill has yet to be rescheduled.

Earlier, heavy snow also forced the organizers to postpone by one day the women's snowboard giant slalom race in Yamanouchi.

The women's snowboard giant slalom, earlier set to start two hours behind schedule at 11:30 a.m. at Mt. Yakebitai was rescheduled for Tuesday as steady snowfall blanketed the northern parts of Nagano Prefecture, central Japan. (Kyodo News)
