Award Ceremony

The Nagano Olympics Committee (NAOC) decided on March 23, 1996, to hold the Award Ceremony for outdoor events such as skiing and biathlon in the center of Nagano City.

A ceremony to mark the completion of "Central Square," which will serve as the site of the Award Ceremony for outdoor events, was held in Toigosho-cho in Nagano City, on October 5, 1996.

Central Square

The Square has an area of about 4,700m2. Its construction started in July 1996, and the total construction cost was 100 million yen. It has an asphalt pavement, and a temporary stage consisting of a steel frame of light purple color and prefabricated structure with white wall, has been set up for Award Ceremony. The plan is to surround the stage with the flags of all the countries taking part in the Nagano Olympic Games. (originally run October 6, 1996)
