Biathlon Venue

Nozawa Onsen Village

The completion ceremony for the Biathlon Venue "Fureai no Mori Park" for the '98 Nagano Olympics located in Toyosato, Nozawa Onsen Village, was held on site on Dec. 2, 1996. The site covers 14.5 hectares. It is divided up into the main section which encompasses the shooting range and control tower (4 hectares), and a course 8 km long and 7 m wide. After the Games it is to be used as a training center for cross-country skiing and the like.

Total cost of construction was 3.1 billion yen, and construction commenced in June 1995. A 1 km access road leading to the venue was also completed. The biathlon venue was originally to be constructed at Hakuba Village, Kita-Azumi-gun, but upon discovering goshawk nesting grounds the course was changed to Nozawa Onsen Village in December 1993.
