From the Olympics Toward Tomorrow

On February 7 of 1998, the Olympic Flame will make a brief stopover here in Nagano, the site of the XVIII Winter Olympic Games.

The opportunity for us to meet and be impressed by our new friends from around the world is on the other hand shaded by the real image of immense commercialism within the Olympics and concerns over post-Olympic development. What are we looking for and in what way are we truly attempting to change this hometown of ours? It can certainly be said that we intend to succeed in putting on the Games and try to follow a path toward the 21st century opened by them.
